Introduction to Me and My Blog

This photo was taken at our family farm in Arkansas last fall and was uploaded from my computer.

Hello my name is Kenzie Golden and welcome to my blog. I am from Cherokee, Oklahoma which is a really small town in northwest Oklahoma. I grew up on a farm and went to a really small high school with only 19 students in my graduating class. I am a junior at The University of Oklahoma. Back home along with my parents I have two younger siblings and a two year old aussiedoodle and a cat. Some of my Hobbes include sports, painting, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family. My favorite foods are Italian food and any kind of breakfast food. I am currently working at a gym and in the middle of getting my personal train certification. I chose to come to OU because being from such a small town I knew that I wanted to get out into the world and experience new things. I knew absolutely no one as an incoming freshman at the university but I joined a sorority and quickly made so many friendships. I will be getting my bachelor's degree in Health and Exercise Science then moving on to get my Master's degree in Athletic Training. My dream career is to work for a professional team and get to travel with them. I have been really involved in sports my whole life and would love to continue being active with sports.

  1. I think your degree path is really neat. My Grandfather was an athletic trainer for many of Colorado's sports teams in the 80's and 90's. Even the Colorado Caribou in the 70's. My dad also was a student athletic trainer in college so that field is fascinating to me. Also love pets, all pets. I am Spanish Italian so my favorite food is also Italian food, but not just spaghetti and meatballs like people think. I also LOVE breakfast food, I have some good breakfast recipes and tricks I am willing to share if you are interested.

  2. Hey Kenzie! I think it is so cool that you came in not knowing anyone from high school; I know that is a big first step into the adulting world, so I love that you found a home at OU. I also share a love for sports and am gonna be so jealous of you when you work for a professional sports team. You'll definitely be living the dream!

  3. Hi Kenzie! I went to high school in Moore so it was a lot bigger than your city. My graduating class was around 500-600. I think it would be nice to have a smaller class so you're able to know everyone you're graduating with.
I'm also a health and exercise science major! This is my senior year. I'm currently applying to PA schools right now. It's a stressful time. I'm in the process of almost transitioning to the next chapter of my life. But I'm excited for it!

  4. Oh, that is so cool about having gone to a small school like that, Kenzie! I went to a big high school and big university too, and now I work at OU, so I've never known what that small school atmosphere is like... but I did live on a farm for a couple of years, and that was such an incredible experience where we lived our lives more based on the hours of light in the day and the weather instead of just some kind of daily routine that was the same all year round. I know everybody is missing sports so much right now in the pandemic, and everybody will be glad to see the world of sports come back. Meanwhile, it's sure making people appreciate even more the sports that are able to go on, watching new sports they might have never watched before, broadening their sports horizons.

  5. Hi Kenzie!

I too grew up in a small town, Clinton, OK, albeit I had more people in my graduating class. I had somewhere around 150-160, but it sounds like it would be more fun to have a smaller class. I never really knew my graduating class that well, but it sounds like you had an opportunity to get to know your classmates more and bond with them. I also love Italian food! My favorite food is pizza, and my sister-in-law and I love to go to Olive Garden together for never-ending pasta bowl- even though some would say Olive Garden isn't "real" Italian food. I hope you have a good semester!

  6. Hi Kenzie!
I imagine going from a graduating class of just 19 to a big university must have been a huge shift!
That's cool that you want to be a physical trainer!
One of my brothers is working to do something similar, though he wants to focus in on the sports medicine side of things to help injured athletes train safely to help them recover.

  7. Hey, Kenzie!

I think it's so cool that you grew up on a farm, but it must've been scary to make that transition from your small school to OU. Your hobbies all sound super interesting and diverse. Did you play any sports in high school? Your career path sounds awesome, too! Good luck with getting your personal training certification and your Master's!

  8. Hey Kenzie, it’s nice to meet you! I graduated with 35 kids, so I know what you mean when you say you wanted to get out and experience more than small town life! I’m an HES major as well, so that’s pretty neat. I’d have to agree with you that Italian food is one of the best. I could eat it every day!

  9. Hello Kenzie, it is so nice to meet you! I think it is awesome that you have a plan set out and that you are already on your way to where you want to be in life. Like you, I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma (Piedmont), but not 19 other classmates small. I currently work for the Men's Basketball team here at OU and get to travel with the team, and I can tell you it is an absolute blast. The exclusivity is what makes it so cool for me, so I truly hope you get to do that as well later in your life! I look forward to reading more of your work.

  10. Hi Kenzie! Oh my graduating with 19 students is so small! I also went to high school in a really small town, and graduated with 24 students. I can imagine how nervous you were, (I surely was) when coming to a school with so many more people, but I am so happy that you met people through your sorority. Best of luck to you!

  11. Hi Kenzie! I am from Oklahoma City, but went to a small high school so I graduated with 57. 19 is so small though, I am sure you have loved being at OU with so many people from different backgrounds with various interests. I wish I was good at painting and art - I think it is relaxing, until I mess up and get frustrated with myself because I am not good at it ;) Good luck going forward!!

  12. Hey Kenzie! Wow your graduating high school class was tiny! I graduated with over 850 in my class. I've always wondered what it would be like growing up on a farm in a small town. Did you enjoy it? I'm glad you got to experience being a large university and made friends, I'm sure it was a bit overwhelming coming to such a big school. Good luck with everything in the future!

  13. Hi Kenzie!
I am amazed by how many people graduated with you. That's a very small class, I hope you kept some good friendship from that small group. I am also impressed by how athleticism can have such a big impact on someone if raised around it. I encourage you to keep up and get your degree. You will not only do something you like, but also helping people in need. Wish you the best!

  14. Kenzie, It was nice to read about your passion for health and exercise as I also share a similar love for working out! Although I am pursuing a medical route to health and exercise science by going to medical school and hopefully becoming a surgeon I am glad to see your dream is to help athletes with their health. Keep up the good work!

  15. Hi Kenzie! I have never heard of an aussiedoodle before--it sounds so adorable! I have an Australian Shepherd and my family absolutely loves her. Health and exercise science has always seemed like a fascinating major. I hope you have enjoyed it! Being able to travel with a professional sports team sounds like the dream! Best of luck the rest of the semester, it was great to meet you!

  16. Hi Kenzie!

I am kind of jealous that you graduated from such a small school because I've always wondered what that would have been like growing up. It's also so cool that you are so into exercise and health because I always think it's so interesting when people have strong passions like that. I hope you're doing well today! It was nice to meet you.

  17. Hi Kenzie
It was nice to get to know little more about you. It sounds like you are super passionate about sports and exercise. I play baseball here at OU and I am minoring in Health and Exercise Science. I can see how someone enjoys HES so much, I personally have loved all the classes I have taken. My experience with the baseball team here has been awesome traveling is definitely fun at first, but soon wears you down. Working for a professional organization would be amazing. Have you ever thought of starting at the college level, even at OU? Hope you finish out the semester well!
